NIXON STARS AGAIN AS WICKERS BEAT BURNHAM RAMBLERS

Jake Jenner5 Aug 2024 - 10:05

HACKNEY WICK 3-1 BURNHAM RAMBLERS

Nixon Soglo scored twice as Hackney Wick made it 2 wins from 2 matches in the league.

The Wickers dominated right from the off, and the first chance came just 3 minutes in as Sergi Chele's cracking half-volley smashed the post!

Burnham Ramblers provided the occasional threat, Wickers' keeper Bartz Klimkiewicz being forced to tip a dangerous shot over the bar.

However the pressure eventually told just over halfway through the first half. Seb Mohammed did well to hold the ball in the box and he laid it off for Nixon to guide home!

It was all Wickers' for the remainder of the first half.

First, Leo Pola went on a good run but his low shot was held by the keeper.

A minute later, Seb's drive from distance forced the keeper into an awkward save.

Then Leo had two chances in the space of a minute, first he saw an attempt well-blocked before he had a shot which was comfortably held by the keeper.

There was a final chance for Hackney Wick before the break, again a half-volley smashed against the post, this time by Nixon. Leo followed up with a low drive that flashed across the face of goal!

The first chance of the second half fell to Nixon, and he made the most of it, converting from close range to double the Wickers' lead!

The visitors hit back immediately. Ben Lewis-Gold was penalised for a foul in the penalty area, and Cameron Gibbins converted from the spot.

Things took a turn for the worse just 6 minutes later, as Ramblers were awarded a second penalty. But Bartz got down well to deny them an equaliser!

Following that short blip, Hackney Wick regained their focus and almost extended their lead as Seb sent a brilliant cross to the back post but Nixon could only turn it wide.

The third goal did eventually come though. Leo's powerful shot was spilled by the keeper, and Victory Akam was on hand to tap in from close range. A goal on his return from injury!

The final 15 minutes were uneventful, and the Wickers made it 6 points from a possible 6 to start the league season!
